Elephant Seals at Stromness

Many Elephant Seals come ashore to breed on the beaches at Stromness Bay, including around the ruins of the old whaling station. They spend much of their time just lying around. There are also Antarctic Fur Seals on the beaches and the males can be aggressive defending their territories – indeed, there were so many in 2017 that it was not safe to land the zodiacs.
